Nine People Stabbed, Thirty Arrested At Swedish House Mafia Dublin Gig

Nine people were reportedly stabbed at Swedish House Mafia’s gig in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday, after their huge show ended with a number of incidents - including a 20 year-old man’s death.

The gig, which formed part of the House producing superstar’s farewell world tour, took place in Dublin’s Phoenix Park, and was set to be a great, emotional gig for the group as they played their last ever show in Ireland - but was marred by chaos from a small number of criminals in the crowd.

Reports coming in today have revealed that nine fans were stabbed - four apparently by the same man - whilst one 20 year-old male died of what is believed to be a drug overdose. The stabbings, the result of broken bottles and knives being used in a fight between crowd members, have left one in a critical condition and three others with serious injuries. Police have arrested the man who is believed to have stabbed four fans.

Swedish House Mafia have since commented on the events (though they mentioned that they weren’t entirely sure what happened) via their Facebook page, saying: “We played a festival in Ireland at the weekend and reports of incidents are coming to us. We didn't see anything but have asked for all the info and are respectful of the promoter's need to wait and give us all the clear facts. When we know more we will liase with the Festival promoter directly on what we can do to help but for now we have to respect their request to us that we remain quiet and respectful of their event safety processes. The festival itself was amazing and we had no idea this had happened and neither did the other numerous artists who played. Once we know all the facts we will deal with it in the best way we can. Thank you.”

Denis Desmond, Managing director of MCD - the promoters behind the gig - also commented, saying: “Ticket holders entering the site were subject to a search permissible by law. Every precaution, as far as possible, was taken to ensure the safety and security of the audience at all times. Despite our best efforts – with security and gardaí personnel levels well in excess of the required numbers for a licensed event of this size – there is only so much one can do to combat anti-social behaviour.”
