Ingredients Records Announce 'Mise En Place' Release Date

DJ Psylence’s Ingredients Records have long known the recipe for a picture perfect drum and bass release, and since their first release back in 2009, they’ve been a standout label who aren’t afraid to release some of the more experimental and atmospheric tracks of the genre.

Their latest EP offering ‘Mise en Place’ (out September 17th) is no different - featuring four tracks from producers we know well, producers we may not have had the privilege to lay our ears on yet, and producers that we are starting to get to know more.

One of those is Villem, an up and coming yet extremely talented producer who’s just signed a deal with Hospital’s alternative drum and bass sister label Med School. One half of duo Mute, he’s a name to watch and his remix of Foreign Concept’s ‘Jaipur’ is perfect blend of darkness, melody, and funk, creating an ear-pleasing kind of sound you rarely find outside of an Ingredients release.

dBridge is one of the producers we know very well - from his time in Bad Company, via his own label Exit Records, and, of course, his own solo releases. His remix of Kodo’s ‘The Jackal’ sees him putting his own moody stamp on an already dystopian-sounding piece of work. Following Ingredients’ tradition of giving the recipe of the track itself, this remix is at least 60% subbass and is as minimal as drum and bass will get.

Stealthy & Stylus and Kinetic & Recoil make their debuts with this release too, with S&S’s ‘Cold Streets’ taking on a similar style to dBridge’s output - something which says a lot of about the pair. ‘Cold Streets’ click-y percussion and deep vibes are met with Kinetic & Recoil’s ‘One Way’, a more chilled out, liquid-esque track that is a great counter to the rest of the EP’s esoteric darkness.

Speaking to Drum and Bass Arena, Clive Psylence himself said: “I’ve mixed up new guys with some more of our regular faces to really represent Ingredients as a whole. There’s so much music out there it’s hard for people to stand out. Pushing new people whose music is great but might get overlooked with bigger names seems to work well. It’s great, people start noticing the new faces more.”

As with every Ingredients release, there’s even a recipe for meal cooked by one of the label’s very own artists, and this time it’s Recoil’s Grandma’s Apple Cake - though you’ll have to actually buy the single for recipe itself. And you’ll get some great music too!
