IM:LTD Unveil 'Purple Sky' EP - Check It Out Now

IM:LTD, an independent subdivision of the soulful Influenza Media label, has been bringing the world some of the deepest and smoothest minimal drum and bass since 2009, when Parisian DJ/producer/graphic designer/label boss Caine put out IMLTD001. Three years later and he’s ready to unleash the Purple Sky EP, an astounding compilation featuring a select six from his brilliant roster of producers.

While they may be capable of producing some of the most relaxing, invigorating, or soul-caressing beats physically possible at 170bpm, the six names in question are some you may have never had the pleasure of laying your ears on. One of those is Es.tereo, whose track ‘Purple Sky’ features as the EP’s lead track. A melodic and calm half-time jam, this track’s sub-bass department touches your ears in ways they’ve probably never been touched before... but in a good way. The same can be said for the rest of the whole EP - each listen is akin to a one-night stand with heaven itself, and you’ll find yourself entranced in it from start to finish.

What makes the whole EP such a great release is that so many elements which fit under the umbrella of deep, minimal drum and bass can be found in each of its six tracks. Gunston’s ‘Transition’ provides the reflective roller, while Hibea takes things (as Bassman would say) a little darker with ‘Elipse’, an eerie and moody track leaning towards the dirtier spectrum of drum and bass.

The remaining three tunes of the release - Nuage’s ‘Above Time’, Gerwin’s ‘Lonely’, and Atmospherix’s ‘In This Life’ - all take after the more emotional side of things, and provide a musically brilliant second half to ‘Purple Sky’. Gerwin combines tribalistic beats with a downtempo melody in a track that accompanies Nuage’s trance-inducing, piano-driven ambience perfectly, while the appropriately-named Atmospherix’s liquid roller effortlessly transports you back to the real, less aurally-peaceful world.

Instead of reading the drivel I’ve written about why I like this EP so much, IM:LTD have uploaded two minute clips of each tune for you to check out before the ‘Purple Sky’ comes your way in October. Keep your eye out for anything to come out of IM:LTD, they employ a quality control system that ensures only the best of the best make it out of their offices, and have some of the most talented producers in the game on board - such as Quartz, Sound Tactix, and everyone on this EP.
