Filmmaker Shane Meadows has revealed a long anticipated documentary based around The Stone Roses’ reunion.
Currently nameless, the film is written and shot by “This Is England” director based both at and around the band’s recent reunion concerts earlier this year, including gigs at Manchester’s Heaton Park in June and July. Film producers Warp Films are hoping to see the film documentary across UK cinemas next year, though dates are yet to be confirmed.
Warp Films Mark Herbet said, “We haven’t set a release date yet, it won't be physically finished until the spring but it will be released in cinemas. We deliberately didn't want it to be something that went straight to DVD. It's Shane Meadows making a movie with The Stone Roses and there's lots of Shane Meadows trademarks in there." Meadows even stopped the production of “This Is England ‘90” and another big budget movie in order to focus on The Stone Roses’ documentary, stating the documentary was “like the job of the world for me”.
Warp Films, producers of videos including many of the Arctic Monkey videos alongside 2010 film Submarine said that the first draft of the documentary is almost ready to show The Stone Roses, and speaking to BBC 6Music said "Shane's got it into a shape now to show the band and the plan is that we'll lock it by Christmas and do post-production in the new year for release sometime next year”.
Following their recent reunion, the band were also entered into the Guinness Book of World Records earlier this year as the fastest selling rock concerts in UK history after their three homecoming gigs in Manchester’s Heaton Park between June 29th and July 1st.
The Stone Roses are rumored to release a new studio album next year after their original split in 1996 and global reunion tour this year. Though the band have signed a two-album reunion deal with Universal Records, it has been confirmed that the band are still writing new material that they wish to share in the future.
