Madonna Facing £6.5million Russian Lawsuit After Promoting Gay Rights

Monday, 12 November 2012 Written by Elliott Batte

The totalitarian government of Russia has today claimed that international superstar Madonna is legible to be taken to court - because she promoted gay rights during her ‘MDNA’ tour.

The singer, who’s MDNA world tour is still travelling across the Americas, could be about to face a £6.5million lawsuit after handing out pink bracelets telling crowd members to ‘fight for the right to be free’, which have been branded as anti-homophobic.

Though the bracelets would be accept - and probably embraced - in most countries, the Russian government has outlawed ‘gay lifestyles’ and the ‘propagation of homosexuality’, and the Union of Russian Citizens, the People's Assembly, and the New Great Russia have now submitted a lawsuit - claiming that the audience were left in with ‘psychological stress and emotional shock’.

Worryingly, the lawsuit hasn’t just been filed, but has now been approved by a court in St Petersburg - that claims Madge’s actions were unacceptable, and that she’d ‘crossed the line by giving the bracelets to children as young as 12’.

The incident bares similarities to the unfortunate situation regarding Pussy Riot - whom Madonna supported throughout their trials - that had members jailed following a protest performance at a cathedral earlier this year.
