Scott Weiland Claims Firing Was A Publicity Stunt: "Stone Temple Pilots Is Not Broken Up"

Now for the latest development in the Stone Temple Pilots vs Scott Weiland story. After getting the sack (again) earlier this week, today the singer has revealed that his firing from the band was all a publicity stunt to generate hype for an upcoming STP tour. Weiland is insisting that the band are still 100% together.

TMZ reports that Weiland said: "STP is not broken up. It's a whole thing to try to boost ticket sales."

It appears that communication between Weiland and STP has completely broken down as the singer explains the situation as if he isn't really aware of such a tour, which seems to have been arranged without him.

The question still remains, why does Weiland appear to be so certain that he is still part of the STP line-up? The singer explains that the band's contract forbids members to use the name without him in the line-up. In more simple terms, if Scott Wieland is fired, Stone Temple Pilots do not exist.

Adding more confusion to the whole saga, Weiland admits that he has no idea what the band were thinking in issuing that statement that read: “Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland.” When asked if he's still leading the band, Scott replied, "I started it."
