Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman Dies Aged 49

Thursday, 02 May 2013 Written by Jon Stickler

Thrash legends Slayer have reported that their guitarist Jeff Hanneman has passed away, aged 49.

While Jeff had been sidelined from touring for over two years after contracting necrotizing fasciitis following a spider bite, the guitarist was reportedly recovering well. The incredibly sad and shocking news was revealed via a post on Slayer's official Facebook page.

“Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Our Brother Jeff Hanneman, May He Rest In Peace (1964 – 2013)”

Slayer spawned in 1981 through the partnership of Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. Breakthrough album 'Reign In Blood' was unleashed in 1986 with Hanneman co-writing the brutal 'Angel of Death' and 'Raining Blood', the latter being the band's top-selling track.

RIP Jeff Hanneman. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.
