Justin Bieber Booed at Awards Show - "I'm An Artist And I Should Be Taken Seriously"

Monday, 20 May 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Canadian superstar Justin Bieber told the crowd at the Billboard Music Awards to take him seriously last night - after they booed him as he received the Milestone Award.

The singer beat the likes of Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars to pick up the first ever Milestone Award, which highlights the artist’s ‘fantastic achievements’ in the Billboard charts this year, but he didn’t quite receive the ovation he expected when he took to the stage to accept it.

Walking to the stage, he got pats on the back and applause from the celebrity-filled front rows, many of whom stood up to commend Bieber for his achievement. But, as he faced the crowd, the applause was drowned out by the boos of thousands and thousands of audience members who seemed more than disappointed that he’d received the accolade.

Bieber looked stunned and almost lost-for-words as the boos echoed round the arena, but finally gathered himself to tell the crowd:

“I’m 19 years-old, I think I’m doing a pretty good job. And basically, from my heart I really just wanna say it should really be about the music, the craft that I’m making. This is not a gimmick, I’m an artist and I should be taken seriously and all this other bull should not be spoken of.”

He then goes on to thank his manager, family, and fans, as a mixture of wild cheers and loud booing continues in the background. You can see a video of the speech below; it’s received thousands upon thousands of views, and countless comments - expect a war of words between haters and Beliebers if you check it out!

What do you think of the booing - disrespectful, or would you have joined in? Leave us a comment in the box below.
