Sir Elton John Cancels Hyde Park Show & Reschedules Summer Euro Tour Due To Appendicitis

Tuesday, 09 July 2013 Written by Jon Stickler

Sir Elton John has been forced to cancel a headline performance at London's Hyde Park on Friday night, having been diagnosed with appendicitis. The legendary British singer and songwriter was due to top a star-studded line-up which also features the likes of Elvis Costello and Ray Davies.

UPDATE: It has been confirmed that the Hyde Park show will go on with the remaining stellar line-up for FREE and existing ticket holders will receive a full refund! Details here.

Calling in doctors while on his European tour, 66-year-old Sir Elton underwent scans and blood tests before medics prescribed him an intensive course of antibiotics. A statement issued on his behalf reveals he has been diagnosed with an “appendix abscess surrounding retrocaecal appendicitis”.

Elton is now expected to undergo surgery in the UK as soon as doctors feel they have reduced toxins around his appendix. Due to Elton's health struggles doctors have advised him to cancel all forthcoming shows from his current tour, including the Hyde Park show which formed part of the Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Festival.

Sir Elton's spokesman has since revealed that the singer will not return to touring until he has fully recovered.

“Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates. To know that he made such super-human efforts and continued to perform to thousands through his illness only confirms his dedication to his European fans.

“He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013.”

Sir Elton was confirmed earlier today as one of the stars due to play the London Roundhouse iTunes Festival in September.
