Major labels are said to be interested in signing the fictional TV character David Brent to an album deal - after his ‘Learn Guitar’ YouTube channel took off.
Brent - played by Ricky Gervais - is the star of BBC mockumentary The Office, and is one of UK TV’s favourite comedy characters. Though the show is no more, Gervais recently revived the role for a series of YouTube videos called ‘Learn Guitar with David Brent’ - and it’s resulted in some major label interest.
Talking of the offers, Gervais said (via Music Week):
“I can't believe I'm now getting ridiculous offers from major record deals all over the world for a David Brent album. Where were these people when I was trying to be a real popster? And starving?”
He continued:
“It's been so much fun bringing back David Brent and have him philosophise on Youtube, and spend all his hard earned repping money on still trying to become a pop star. It's funny and sadly true of today's X Factor culture.”
Along with most recent track Slough, he’s also put out videos for Life on the Road, Ooh La La, Ain’t No Trouble, Spaceman Came Down and Free Love Freeway. You can check out Slough below - what do you think of the news? Leave us a comment in the box below!
