Multi-Million Pound Bidding War Begins For David Bowie London Show

Monday, 02 September 2013 Written by Jon Stickler

According to reports in today's Mirror, international event promoters Live Nation have tabled a multi-million pound bid to bring British icon David Bowie to the stage for the first time in eight years.

The bid is to bring Bowie to Live Nation's new east London venue, the Olympic Park, in 2014. It wont be easy for the world-renowned promoters, who have close links with Bowie’s tour agent John Giddings, as a fierce bidding was looks set to begin to persuade Bowie to make his return. AEG are also looking to lodge a bid soon, possibly to play their main London venue Hyde Park.

It was reported a while back that Bowie's guitarist Earl Slick had confirmed that there were no plans for a tour before the end of the year. However, he did leave the door open for 2014.

Speaking in June, Slick said: “I get asked all the time. And I say ‘Do you know something I don’t know?’ Really though, there’s no big secret we’re keeping from everyone. There’ll definitely be no shows this year, I can tell you that. As for next year, who knows? There’s no conspiracy about a tour now, there just is no tour.

"As for whether I want him to tour, well, I always want to go out, I love to tour, but I’ve got my own thing going at the moment too. If he goes out on the road and I get the call, then all well and good. “

The Thin White Duke has received massive critical acclaim for his latest album 'The Next Day', the global star's first record in 10 years. Demand to see him perform the tracks live is huge.

David Bowie stopped touring after suffering a heart attack during a 2004 concert in Germany. He last performed on stage in 2006 with Alicia Keys.

Incidentally, 2014 will mark the 50th anniversary of Liza Jane, Bowie’s first single released under the name Davie Jones with the King Bees when he was 17.
