Dream Theater Working On Latest Album With 21-Year Old Student

Prog metal titans Dream Theater release their self-titled 12th studio album next week, having enlisted a relatively unheard of 21-year old student for assistance!
Dream Theater have set a September 24 date for the release of their latest collection, but what many people won’t know about the record is the hard work put in by Eren Başbuğ - a 21-year old student/musical genius who composed a number of arrangements for the record.
Dream Theater originally formed at Berklee College of Music, and that’s exactly Turkish-born pianist, conductor and composer attends. But funnily enough, that wasn’t actually where John Petrucci and co. found him.
Başbuğ is actually a massive fan of the band, and in 2011 he arranged a massive orchestra - full of friends from all over Turkey - to perform the band’s 40+ minute marathon Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.
A video of their performance was uploaded to YouTube and garned hundreds of thousands of hits, with Başbuğ commenting that he was ‘trying to pay tribute to music that I love, but hoping, in some way, it might get the band's attention’.
Gain their attention it did, and after keyboard-player Jordan Rudess found it, he was invited to work on new things with himself and later the whole band, and has now contributed to their epic soon-come eponymous new album.
For Başbuğ, it was a dream come true, and he’s been posting pics of him in the studio to his Facebook page - one caption reads:
“Recording the parts I arranged for Dream Theater's new album. One of the most amazing moments of my life so far.”
