Dr Feelgood and Yardbirds Star Gypie Mayo Dies Aged 62

Thursday, 24 October 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Dr Feelgood and Yardbirds guitarist Gypie Mayo has died aged 62.

The news was broken by Wilko Johnson, who was replaced by Mayo in Dr Feelgood in 1977, via Facebook yesterday, with hundreds of comments from fans pouting in.

He wrote:

“Very sad to hear Gypie Mayo passed away this morning..RIP Gypie.”

The Londoner is credited for co-writing Dr Feelgood’s only UK Top 10 single, Milk and Alcohol, and featured on six of their studio albums over four years in the late '70s and early '80s. He later performed with the Yardbirds on their record ‘Birdland’.
