Wu-Tang Clan To Release Just One Copy Of Secret New Album

Thursday, 27 March 2014 Written by Elliott Batte

Hip hop legends Wu-Tang Clan will release just one copy of a secret new album, 'The Wu - Once Upon A Time In Shaolin'.

The album, recorded with producer Tarik 'Cilvaringz' Azzougarh, will tour music and art festivals, galleries, and museums before being sold to one individual, with the price tag in the millions.

Among guests on the 31 track record are Bonnie Jo Mason, Redman, FC Barcelona footballers and a "unique tapestry of guest performers", while its nickel-silver box was created by British-Moroccan artist Yahya.

RZA told Forbes:

“We’re about to sell an album like nobody else sold it before. We’re about to put out a piece of art like nobody else has done in the history of [modern] music.  We’re making a single-sale collector’s item. This is like somebody having the scepter of an Egyptian king.”

In a statement, RZA and Cilvaringz added:

"History demonstrates that great musicians such as Beethoven, Mozart and Bach are held in the same high esteem as figures like Picasso, Michelangelo and Van Gogh. However, the creative output of today’s artists such as The RZA, Kanye West or Dr. Dre, is not valued equally to that of artists like Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst or Jean-Michel Basquiat."

Meanwhile, Wu-Tang Clan will release their long-awaited comeback album, ‘A Better Tomorrow’, later this year.
