Garth Brooks has vowed that all five of his Dublin shows will go ahead or none at all after a stand off developed between the country star and Dublin city council.
Brooks had been due to play Croke Park on successive nights between July 25 and 29 before complaints from a number of local residents led the council to refuse licences for the final two shows.
"The cumulative effect on residents and on some businesses would lead to an unacceptable level of disruption to their lives and livelihoods," they said in a statement on Thursday.
Now, Brooks has responded in a statement released to the Press Association (viaBBC): "I can't thank the people of Ireland enough for how welcome they have made me feel. I have faith that Dublin City Council will make the best decision for the people of Ireland. For us, it is five shows or none at all. To choose which shows to do and which shows not to do, would be like asking to choose one child over another."
Peter Aiken, the concert’s promoter, has told RTE that there is no scope to move the shows to a new venue: "This is a one-off show, it's not going to happen anywhere else in the world. All the customised pieces of video equipment that he's bringing in, we can't strip that down and move to another venue. That's just rumour that we're going to do somewhere else."
Brooks had planned the five night stand as his comeback, having initially retired from performing in 2000, and some 400,000 tickets have been sold.
