Paul Simon Shares Reworked Version Of Can't Run But

Friday, 24 August 2018 Written by Huw Baines

Paul Simon has offered up another glimpse of his new record with a retooled version of Can’t Run But.

‘In The Blue Light’ is out on September 7 and features updated takes on songs from throughout his legendary career.

“Re-doing arrangements, harmonic structures, and lyrics that didn’t make their meaning clear, gave me time to clarify in my own head what I wanted to say, or realize what I was thinking and make it more easily understood,” Simon said in a statement.

Can’t Run But originally made its home on his 1990 album ‘Rhythm Of The Saints’. An unusual, polyrhythmic song with lyrics derived from the Chernobyl disaster, its 2018 iteration only amps up its outlier status thanks to creeping strings from the National’s Bryce Dessner and chamber ensemble yMusic.

Simon’s Homeward Bound farewell tour will wind down in September, with his last show set to take place at Flushing Meadows' Corona Park in New York.
