Lorde Returns With First Single In Four Years Solar Power

Friday, 11 June 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Lorde has unveiled her first single in four years, Solar Power.

Co-penned and co-produced with Jack Antonoff, the chilled, acoustic guitar-led track embraces summery vibes and was released to coincide with the solar eclipse in the northern hemisphere on June 10.

Featuring backing vocals from Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo, it comes after the two-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist announced her long-awaited next album of the same name, sharing its striking cover art. Take a look below.

A release date is still to be confirmed, though it'll follow 2017's 'Melodrama' and 2013's 'Pure Heroine'. In a message to fans included in an email newsletter, the 24-year-old described the record in terms of a person:

"There’s someone I want you to meet. Her feet are bare at all times. She’s sexy, playful, feral and free. She's a modern girl in a headstock bikini, in touch with her past and her future, vibrating at the highest level when summer comes around. Her skin is glowing, her lovers are many.

"The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalising the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors.

"In times of heartache, grief, deep love or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I've learned to breathe out and tune in. This is what came through."
