Deerhoof Share New Single My Lovely Cat

Wednesday, 07 September 2022 Written by Jon Stickler

Deerhoof have released My Lovely Cat.

Dedicated to the famous internet cat Lil Bub who passed away in 2019, the dizzy, skittering indie-rock track features lyrics written and sung in Japanese by bassist and singer Satomi Matsuzaki, who also illustrated the single's artwork.

Recorded and mixed by Lil Bub's owner Mike Bridavsky at Winnipeg's No Fun Club, and mastered by Bridavsky at Russian Recording, it marks Deerhoof's first new music since their 2021 album 'Actually, You Can'. The band commented:

"If you were going to compose a song about a cute cat from the internet, and then track down the guy known for their cute cat from the internet to produce it, you would be shrewd indeed. This we did not do, because we didn't know about Mike Bridavsky or Lil Bub when we wrote the song. Well, we think about him now: a true collaborator and artist and friend!"
