Joni Mitchell Announces Live Album Recorded At Newport Folk Festival In 2022

Joni Mitchell has announced a new live album, 'Joni Mitchell At Newport'.
Out on July 28 through Rhino, the release captures the folk-rock icon's July 2022 surprise concert at Newport Folk Festival, and comes with liner notes written by longtime journalist and filmmaker Cameron Crowe.
"Mitchell emerged from the side of the stage, swaying smoothly, in fine summer-style with beret and sunglasses. Her good-natured mood instantly set the tone," Crowe wrote. "This performance would be an intimate gathering of friends, not unlike the Joni Jams she’d been hosting in her own living room over the last few years of recovery.
"Smiling broadly, Mitchell made her surprise appearance, taking her on-stage seat alongside [Brandi] Carlile. Within minutes, the news had rocketed around the globe. Mitchell was back, sparkling with enthusiasm, delivering a tender and passionate set of 13 songs, ending with a joyful sing-along of The Circle Game."
During the set, her first full public concert since she suffered a debilitating brain aneurysm in 2015, the 79-year-old was joined by Brandi Carlile, Wynonna Judd, Marcus Mumford, Lucius, and more. Head below to watch her performance of Both Sides Now from the show, alongside the full tracklist.
The 10-time Grammy Award-winner will reunite with Carlile at the Gorge Amphitheater in Quincy, Washington on June 10.
Her most recent studio LP, 'Shine', came out in 2007, though she put out a live record in 2021 documenting her 1969 concert at New York's Carnegie Hall.
