Orchestra Baobab are a Senegalese band, primarily playing a mix of Afro-Cuban jazz, son cubano, Wolof and Mande music.
Formed in 1970, as the house band for the Baobab Club, the band released over 24 albums, including their debut in ‘Saf Mounadem’ in 1972, before disbanding in 1987. Their most famous album, ‘Pirates Choice’, was released in 1989 after than broke up, alongside several other posthumous releases, before they reformed in 2001. The band have since released three more studio albums – the latest being 'Tribute to Ndiouga Dieng' in 2017. Orchestra Baobab will tour the UK in September 2023.
