The Calgary Flames are an Canadian ice hockey team hailing from Calgary, Alberta. Founded in Atlanta in 1972, the franchise would move to Alberta in 1980, where it has remained ever since.

Part of the NHL's Western Conference, in which they compete in the Pacific Division, The Flames would enjoy their best spell of success in the '80s, which saw them win their only Stanley Cup at the end of the decade and the majority of their other silverware, too.

The mid-'00s saw an unexpected return to form, with the team clawing their way to the Stanley Finals in what is now referred to as the Red Mile, but in recent years they have failed to make the playoffs - 2009 was the last time they saw post-season action.
