Chairlift are an American synthpop duo from New York, consisting of Caroline Polachek songwriter, vocalist, and synth player Caroline Polachek, and multi-instrumentalist, backing vocalist and producer Patrick Wimberly.
Originally formed as a project between Polachek and Aaron Pfenning at the University of Colorado, in 2005, they signed to Kanine Records in 2007, and Wimberly joined the band the same year. In 2008, they released their debut LP, ‘Does You Inspire You’, which was re-released the following year when Columbia Records signed the band. That year they played shows with the likes of Phoenix, The Killers, and MGMT. Pfenning left Chairlift in 2010 to pursue his solo career in Rewards. Their latest album, ‘Moth’, arrived in January 2016, and was followed with live shows including an East Coast tour of Australia in December 2016.
