Chemical Brothers’ Ed Simons Criticises Radiohead

Tuesday, 29 March 2011 Written by James Conlon

Ed Simons from The Chemical Brothers expressed his frustration about Radiohead’s extended publicity campaign yesterday. The electronic star criticised the hype that has followed the release of Radiohead’s latest record ‘The King of Limbs’, saying the album “sounds like nonsense”.

As reported by Stereoboard yesterday, Radiohead handed out copies of their limited-edition paper ‘The Universal Sigh’ to mark the physical release of their latest studio LP.

However, Simons was quick to comment on the stunt, which caused queues to form around Rough Trade Records in Brick Lane. Simons posted on Twitter: "Am starting to wonder if there's any other band as in love with their own lovedness as the current incarnation of Radiohead. The bends was just ok, not listened to much after that, are they any good?"

When asked his opinion on the Radiohead’s latest album, he commented: "not being bad, but it all just sounds like nonsense to me, it is possible I am wrong on this, but newspaper records, who cares. I have no interest in Radiohead, not their music or their obsession with marketing. by our grace, us multi millionaires are going to give our record away for free, f**k all the musicians trying to catch a break."

He later reacted when a fan joked that he “must be a Coldplay fan” by stating: "coldplay are on a different plane to radiohead, they make beautiful music which connects people to their emotions. the cocteau twins didn't wrap up their albums in newspapers or whatever it is. the zombies didn't sit around plotting their digital strategy."
