Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has expressed his appreciation for this year’s Glastonbury, claiming that being given such a high spot on the bill is a fitting way to mark the Mancunian band’s 20th anniversary as an outfit.
Speaking to NME, the ‘Build a Rocket Boys’ singer expressed his joy at being second headliner for this evening, performing just before Coldplay on the iconic Pyramid Stage.
Describing the experience as “mind-blowing”, he said: "It's, like, 20 years this month that the band formed, so to be celebrating here is pretty special really. Playing second headliner on the Pyramid Stage is something I never thought I'd do. It's mind-blowing – it's one of those things you can't actually take in."
Garvey went on to praise the atmosphere of the Worthy Farm festival as a whole, saying: "There's something about the land and the sky round here - it's pretty trippy really. I'm from the north, so there are all these hills on the horizon and there isn't in this part of the world. There's more sky, and if that sounds pretty hippy, it's because I am. You can understand why they believed in magic and stuff like that 'round here, because there's just something vibrant about it."
Elbow began their Glastonbury set minutes ago, appearing on the Pyramid Stage from 8:15pm this evening.
