Coach Returning From Bestival Crashes - 3 Dead, 50 Injured

A coach taking dozens of fans home from last weekend’s Bestival festival has crashed in Surrey, killing three and injuring 50 according to reports.

The tragic incident (which you can see in the image above, courtesy of Sky News) happened after the bus drifted from the A3 and crashed into a tree, leaving three people dead - one of which is largely expected to be the driver, who reportedly still remains inside the coach. There are also others still trapped inside the vehicle.

Richard Mallett, an inspector at the scene, told Sky News: “We are dealing with a major incident, a tragic major incident, the coach has gone off the road and had a significant impact with a tree, I think that is the best way to describe it. The bodies are still trapped inside the vehicle. As you can imagine it is a very delicate operation to remove them.”

He added: “With all due respect to them, we need to get them out properly - It is a body recovery operation at this point here. We don't think the road conditions or weather were factors.”

The extent of the injuries suffered have varied; while some have already left hospital, one had to be airlifted to Southampton General Hospital as he had suffered ‘life-changing injuries’.

It’s still unknown what caused the crash, with the bus having already travelled for one hour after leaving the Isle of Wight this morning. If you know anyone who was on the bus or have any information, call the Crash Hotline on 0800 056 0154.
