John Lennon Livestream Tribute Event For War Child To Take Place In October

Tuesday, 14 September 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Details of a new John Lennon tribute event have been announced to benefit War Child.

Organised by Blurred Vision frontman Sepp Olsey and singer-songwriter partner Mollie Marriott, the third annual Dear John concert will be livestreamed to audiences on what would have been the Beatles icon's 81st birthday, October 9.

Hosted by BBC broadcaster and producer Bob Harris, the virtual show will feature special guests performing the late artist's classic tracks along with Beatles covers. Those confirmed to take part include Martin Freeman, Peter Frampton, Matt Lucas, Jack Savoretti, Fearne Cotton, Yola, Matt Sorum, Irvine Welsh, Joe Brown, and more.

All donations and net proceeds raised from the ticketed event will go direct to the War Child charity. Head here for further details. Olsey said:

"Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined the success that this humble event conjured in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. It all began with a simple concept of celebrating the legacy that John Lennon left behind. A legacy of peace and unity and love on a global scale, and now to be able to perform these timeless songs with so many heroes and contemporaries of the music world, while raising money for this incredible charity at such a crucial time, is something I could never have conceived or believed when I began my tumultuous journey on this planet."

The news follows the June release of the 'Dear John' tribute album, which comprises interpretations of Lennon songs by a range of acts, and also helped raise money for War Child. Head below to view the second annual concert in 2020.
