The New York Islanders are an American ice hockey team hailing from Uniondale, New York. Founded in 1972, they form part of the NHL's Eastern Conference, in which they play in the Metropolitan Division.

The Islanders are known as having one of just eight recognised NHL dynasties in history - their 1980-1984 period is one of US sport's most successful, bringing them home four consecutive Stanley Cups and 19 consecutive playoff series wins - a record for any professional sports team.

Unfortunately, their fortunes would eventually dwindle - The Islanders haven't won a playoff series since 1992/93, or clinched any silverware since 1988. In at attempt to improve, they'll be moving to the Barclays Center in the 2015/16 season - so make sure you get tickets to one of their Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum farewell games!
