Michael Eavis Lets Slip The Rolling Stones & Paul McCartney To Headline Glastonbury Festival 2013?

Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis has dropped a pretty hefty hint that the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney could be headlining next year's Glastonbury.

In a recent interview for Swiss music festival www.m4music.ch, Michael Eavis let slip that he has been in contact with The Stones and Paul McCartney when asked about the procedure when booking headline acts for the world famous Worthy Farm music and arts festival.

“I choose the headliners,” Eavis responds. “I've got about five people doing bookings, I have the luxury of choosing headliners myself, as that's the bosses privilege”, he jokes. When asked about the actual booking procedure, Eavis explains: “Well I phone up Chris Martin, Do the Stones or Paul McCartney.” The interviewer then jokes, “Can I have a look at your phone book?”

There is much speculation that the Rolling Stones are to headline Glastonbury 2013, with the concert forming part of the veteran rock band's heavily rumoured 50th anniversary world tour.

Last month the Rolling Stones announced they are to delay their 50th anniversary celebrations until 2013. The iconic band, who kicked-off a legendary career with a London gig way back in July 1962, were rumoured to announced a 50th anniversary world tour this year celebrating the milestone in their hugely successful career. However, despite promising comments from band guitarist Ronnie Wood earlier this year, who revealed that he and his fellow Stones were on the verge of a new worldwide tour, the suggested shows have since been delayed until 2013.

When asked about the 50th anniversary jaunt, Stones guitarist and songwriter Keith Richards commented: “Basically, we're just not ready. I have a feeling that's [2013] more realistic.”

Keith's health issues could perhaps be the main reason behind the postponement, with doubts over whether the guitarist could currently commit to a full-scale world tour, however, Keith Richards offered his own reason: "The Stones always considered '63 to be 50 years, because Charlie [Watts, drummer] didn't actually join until January," he said. "We look upon 2012 as sort of the year of conception, but the birth is next year."

The Rolling Stones are about the return to the recording studio together. In addition, 2013's celebratory world tour could see former bassist Bill Wyman rejoin the band.
