Prince In The Lead For Glastonbury Speculation

Prince is leading speculation to be a headliner for the 2011 Glastonbury festival. Although no official announcements have been made by Michael Eavis or the Glastonbury organisers, sources close to the eccentric singer have declared that he is set to play at the festival.

In an interview with a British magazine, a source declared: "Michael was very keen to get the line-up sorted early and is over the moon at securing such a massive act. He is a huge fan of Prince and has been trying to nab him for years. The fact it's been tied up so quickly is a big, but welcome, shock."

The 'Purple Rain' songwriter would make an excellent headliner for the festival, on par with the number of other hugely successful acts who have played on the Pyramid stage over the last few years. Coldplay and U2 are two names that have also been closely linked with this year’s event. Speaking on their official website last month, U2 added fuel to the speculative fires by announcing: "Looking at the tour dates – there is a gap in the band's schedule ahead of the East Lansing show on June 26th, which would make the Friday night a possibility."

The Irish legends were forced to pull out of their first ever appearance at Glastonbury this summer when frontman Bono injured his back. Although nothing has been confirmed as of yet, media sources have claimed that organisers are thrilled to have secured U2 for the 2011 festival.

Michael Eavis recently confirmed all three headliners for next year have been booked, but refused to confirm who they are: the announcement will most likely be made after the remaining tickets are sold this spring.
