Singer/songwriter Adele has discussed her recent teary performance at the Brit awards, saying that she was thinking about her ex-boyfriend throughout her song.
The ‘Chasing Pavements’ singer gave a triumphant performance at the ceremony, winning praise from fans and critics alike with a vulnerable and passionate rendition of her track ‘Someone Like You’. However, speaking on ITV2 after the performance, Adele explained her on-stage tears.
She said: "I was really emotional by the end because I'm quite overwhelmed by everything anyway, and then I had a vision of my ex, of him watching me at home and he's going to be laughing at me because he knows I'm crying because of him, with him thinking, 'Yep, she's still wrapped around my finger’. Then everyone stood up, so I was overwhelmed."
Adele continued to discuss the success of her second album ‘21’, which is currently Number One in the UK album charts and (if midweek figures are to be believed) likely to hold on to the top position next week. She confessed that she hadn’t had time to let the success sink in, saying: "They [her record label] sent me off to America on the day my album went Number One and I've only just got back!"
