Glastonbury’s Emily Eavis has stated that she booked Beyonce as a headliner in order to keep the festival ‘diverse’.
The R&B star was confirmed for the festival late last week (February 11th), and revealed her own excitement about the event, confessing that she had enjoyed it as a 'punter' when husband Jay-Z headlined in 2008.
In an interview with Glastonburyfestivals this week, the daughter of Michael Eavis said: “We are really keen to keep the line-up as diverse as possible. It's always been that way. We really want the people who are the masters of their fields, and that's what she is.”
She continued: “I went to see her live last year and was blown away by the might of the show. She has such soul, an amazing voice with an incredible, all-female band. She knows how to deliver live, and she packs a big punch – it's gonna explode!”
The line-up for the festival is slowly filling with confirmation from the artists themselves, however the festival is not set to reveal the final line-up until early this spring. Colplay were recently confirmed as the second headliners for the event, with U2 strongly rumoured to be the third headline act.
Those left doubting that Beyonce can bring her sound to a festival stage should can watch the singer performing her 2003 hit ‘Crazy In Love’ live below:
