Blur are in no hurry to release new material, according to a recent interview with guitarist Graham Coxon,
In an interview with The Sun yesterday, Coxon revealed that the band have recently been venturing into the studio to record new material together, but only when the members feel motivated enough to do so.
Maintaining his reputation as the more suave side of Britpop, Coxon seemed ambivalent about the band’s follow-up to 2003’s ‘Think Tank’. He said: "I suppose every now and then we like to meet up and record a few things. Whether it sees the light of day or not is a different thing. We just do stuff when we feel like it. I'd quite like to have a bit of time so you can really get stuck in."
Coxon then continued to assert that the mounting pressure to record new material was a major factor in the original break-up of the band. He said: "That kind of thing f***ed Blur up in the first place - the obligation, the work. Especially with me. We're going to do it regularly. I suppose it might turn into an LP in six years or something."
So it appears fans will be waiting a while longer before new material from the band surfaces. To keep away the frustration (even if just for four minutes), here is the band’s performance of ‘Country House’ at Glastonbury 2009:
