Gaga has earned the 1000th Billboard Number One single with her latest track ‘Born This Way’. Not only was the song such a milestone entry, but ‘Born This Way’ also broke US chart records this week, earning Gaga largest debut sales record for a female artist after just three days of sales.
Speaking to Billboard about being the 1000th Number One, Gaga said: "It is a tremendous honour. To be the 1000th no. 1 on Billboard...I would be silly not to say this is the greatest honour of my career."
She continued: "I am so humbled and so honoured and overwhelmed by the reception to 'Born This Way’. It has been so life-changing for me as an artist, and between Billboard and the international number ones and the radio numbers...I couldn't be more blessed to have the fans that I have."
The song achieved opening-week sales of 448,000, a figure which earns Gaga the title as the largest debut week sales number for a female artist ever. The record was held shortly by Britney Spears, who sold 411,000 copies of ‘Hold It Against Me’ last month.
The fact is all the more impressive when considering that Gaga only made the track available last Friday (Febuary 11th), meaning that it was available for only three days at online retailers rather than the full week of sales.
According to the UK midweek sales chart Gaga is also on course to become Number One on this side of the Atlantic. The singer is set to knock Jessie J’s ‘Price Tag’ off of the top spot after impressive sales in the first half of this week.
