Ringo Starr has announced that he will be celebrating 50 years since joining The Beatles with the release of his new solo album ‘Ringo 2012’. The album is due for release on 30th January and will feature contributions from The Eagles’ Joe Walsh, Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart.
‘Ringo 2012’ is Starr’s 16th solo album to date and follows 2010’s ‘Y Not’, which featured collaborations with Joss Stone, Ben Harper and his former Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney on the track ‘Walk With You’. The new album draws inspiration from a variety of genres including blues, soul, country and rock’n’roll.
Ringo Starr joined The Beatles in 1962, replacing their original drummer Pete Best, and remained with the group until their split in 1970. Starr performed lead vocals on a number of successful Beatles songs such as ‘With a Little Help from My Friends’, ‘Yellow Submarine’ and ‘Octopus’s Garden’. He released his debut solo album ‘Sentimental Journey’ in 1970, but it was his third, ‘Ringo’, which became his most successful. The 1973 album featured collaborations with all four of his former Beatles bandmates and included the hit singles ‘Photograph’ and ‘You’re Sixteen’.
