Alan McGee: I Thought Liam Gallagher Was A Drug Dealer

Record label owner and The Guardian writer Alan McGee has confessed that he thought Liam Gallagher was a drug dealer when he first met the Beady Eye singer.

Speaking to The Sun today (May 3rd), the label owner admitted that he met Gallagher by chance, believing that he was a drug dealer. McGee also thought that ex-Oasis guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Archers was actually the group’s singer.

The label owner said: "I was up in Glasgow seeing my dad and I wasn't sure I'd even go to the gig. I got there early by mistake. Oasis were on first, before most people arrived. There was this amazing young version of Paul Weller sat there in a light blue Adidas tracksuit. I assumed he was the drug dealer and that Bonehead, the guitarist, was the singer."

He continued: "It was only when they went on stage I realised it was Liam Gallagher. I knew I had to sign them. Noel and I talked after the show and just said "done" and he turned out to be a man of his word."

McGee went on to state that he doesn’t believe that he could have signed Oasis today in the same way, saying: "I was lucky to be there. We didn't send out scouts. Most of my signings were because I happened to see new bands. That couldn't happen any more. If a new band as much as farts it's all over the internet."

McGee was interviewed by The Sun while promoting the release of ‘Upside Down’, a documentary about Creation Records, which is set for release next Monday (May 9th).
