Pink Floyd Win Album Artwork Competition

Rock legends Pink Floyd are still breaking records and winning awards today – with their album ‘Dark Sind of the Moon’ voted as the best album artwork ever.

The infamous image (seen above) of the beam of light hitting a prism and splitting into a rainbow of colours is still instantly recognisable today. ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ spawned two singles, ‘Us and Them’ and ‘Money’.

Batting off competition from The Clash, The Beatles, and Nirvana, Pink Floyd ran out easy winner in the artwork competition, with Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ taking the second spot, followed by Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The majority of the votes in the competition went to bands formed in the 60s and 70s, with the earliest song to be voted for being Rage against the Machine’s golden old self-titled album, from 92. For the full list of nominees or voters etc you can visit Music Radar’s website now.

Pink Floyd even further cemented their win in this competition by managing to get another of their artworks voted in at number ten. ‘Animals’ features an inflated floating pig tied up, looking very distressed.
