South Wales Band Jets To Zurich Knock Arctic Monkeys Off Top Spot... In Qatar

A South Wales rock band has reached unexpected success with their second ever single – after it knocked Arctic Monkeys off the #1 spot in QATAR.

Jets to Zurich, a four-piece outfit from Cynon Valley, seem to have struck a chord with the people of the Arab country, where the band have a record deal with Rickie Rocks Records. The band remains unsigned in the United Kingdom, where they haven’t yet hit the big time, but have a strong following in Qatar after taking the advice of another band who suggested they send new single ‘Downward Spiral’, as well as some other tracks, to a radio DJ. Frontman and vocalist Dale Hawkins admitted he was surprised with the success.

“They seem to really like our music out there. We can’t really believe this has happened. Our link with Qatar came about just by chance.

“We were playing a gig in North Wales last year and one of the other bands suggested we send a tape of our music out to a DJ in Qatar called Haytham Jawhari, who works for the Qatar Broadcasting Service.

“He loved our music and actually our first single Crimson Tide got to number four in the charts out there last December,”

The band plan to fly out to the Middle Eastern country to play for their legions of fans this November, which makes a delightful change to their usual routine of playing gigs across South Wales and England.

Jets to Zurich are an alternative rock band who describe themselves as a cross between fellow Welsh bands Manic Street Preachers and Stereophonics. The band have two albums, two E.Ps and now two singles out now.
