Van Halen's Australian Reunion Tour Cancelled

Californian classic rockers Van Halen have been forced to cancel their Australian tour with Alice Cooper, Hole and Bad Religion after it was rumoured that Aerosmith had pulled out of their potential second headline slot, as well as a lack of ticket sales.

The handful of dates, billed as the Soundwave Revolution Tour, was scheduled for this September and looked to be one of hard rock’s biggest tours in a long time. But after promoters tried and failed to secure another big band to join them, they pulled the plug on the gigs as they anticipated a low-selling and potentially costly set of shows.

An official statement from the promoters apologised but also told fans that the bands that were set to play would still make appearances in Australia this year.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of the Revolution Festival,” they wrote. “Many of the festival bands will still be coming to Australia in that time period and team up to bring you some very special shows. These will include multi band/mini festival line-ups in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. We will be announcing these events in the next 7 days.”

The ‘Jump’ singers were quick to deny reports that they pulled out of the festival, meaning that Triple M’s reports from Australia that Aerosmith withdrew from the events look the most likely cause of the cancellation.

Van Halen are set to release a new album later this year, their first in over 13 years. The band are currently working with the title ‘We’re Back: The Van Halen Story’ but has no set release date – but reports as early as May this year told us that the band were in the mixing stage of the production, meaning fans haven’t got much longer to wait.
