The Who Launch Competition to Find New Video for Classic Single ‘5:15’

Wednesday, 19 October 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

To celebrate next month’s special release of their classic rock opera ‘Quadrophenia’, British rock legends The Who have announced the launch of a competition to find a new video for the album’s hit single ‘5:15’. The band have collaborated with Talenthouse to invite prospective filmmakers and animators to submit their own music video for the chance to have it made into the official video to the song.

Hopeful applicants should create a video that reflects the Mod culture of the 1960s, as portrayed in ‘Quadrophenia’, taking inspiration from the musical itself. For more details on the competition and to find out how to enter, visit The Who’s website or Talenthouse.com

Speaking about the new competition, The Who guitarist and composer of ‘Quadrophenia’ Pete Townshend said: “Over the years, we’ve enjoyed working with many great video production teams, so we are very excited to see what the next generation of creative thinkers are capable of producing.”

The winner of the competition will receive $2000 as well as the opportunity to work with Universal Music Group’s marketing team to finalize the video. They will also win a Fender guitar signed by Pete Townshend and a copy of ‘Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut’ Box Set.

‘Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut’ is due for release on 14th November and will include a five-disc box set including a number of unheard tracks and a DVD. It will also include a deluxe hardback book, photographs and other memorabilia related to the musical.

‘Quadrophenia’ – originally released in 1973 – was The Who’s sixth album and their second rock opera following 1969’s ‘Tommy’. The album included three singles, including the band’s Top 20 hit ‘5:15’. ‘Quadrophenia’ was later made into a film starring Phil Daniels and Sting.
