Justin Bieber Dismisses Chances Of Rap Career - Saying 'Rapping Is Something I Do For Fun'

While it was his boyish looks and talented singing that turned Canadian teen Justin Bieber into one of the biggest stars in the world at the moment, he's been known to try his hand at rapping too – having worked with the likes of Kanye West, Drake and Jay-Z. But, the star has now moved himself away from the rap game – and revealed that he won't be pursuing a career as a rapper.

Videos of Bieber spitting the odd verse are not uncommon on the internet today and the 'Boyfriend' singer even has his own rap alter ego – 'Shawty Mane'. But, despite even rapping on a number of releases – e.g. Chris Brown's 'New Boy in Detention' mixtape – Bieber won't be straying from his original profession of singing, admitting that rap isn't as big in a lot of countries as it is in his native Canada and America.

Speaking to MTV, Bieber said: “A lot of countries don't get rap music. It is a lot bigger in the US and Canada but not everywhere. I am a singer - that is my passion. Rapping is something that I like to do for fun.”

The comments contrast with recent comments he made, also to MTV, in which he said of his new album 'Believe': “There's not a lot of rapping on the album. As people know, I'm a singer, and I don't want to get people confused with that, but it's something that I love to do, so you guys will definitely hear more of it.”

'Believe' hits shelves on June 19th and it's lead single 'Boyfriend' is out now. You can listen to the track below.
