Diet Cig's 'Do You Wonder About Me?' washes over the listener like a warm wave on a sandy beach. Running to just 25 minutes over 10 songs, it’s brimming with feel-good magic as the quirky grunge-pop aesthetic of the two-piece creates a lasting impression.

Channelling a sense of earnestness that feels restorative, the cathartic vocals of lead singer Alex Luciano drift sublimely above the chunky riffage of the guitars. The LP’s emotionally incisive lyrics, meanwhile, feel like the work of musicians at least a decade older than Luciano and her co-conspirator Noah Bowman.

Their sentiments are deeply considered, and extracted from experiences that have shaped a coming of age account.

Luciano investigates what it means to grow as a person, and where our past selves fit into that equation, without once neglecting a melodic approach.

There is an overriding feeling of enjoyment within Diet Cig's music, inspired by their dedication to engineering picture-perfect examples of the hooky mess they have described as ‘slop-pop’. This love for their craft simultaneously makes their sound ideal for making memories.

Each track here feels integral to the whole—there is no standout track nor album filler. From the instant classic Thriving, which opens proceedings, to the late album highlight Stare into the Sun, 'Do You Wonder About Me?' is one of those immediately identifiable albums that will be the soundtrack to so many unforgettable road trips.
