The charts might be packed full of bling and poor wannabe gangstas, contrary to popular opinion however, real hip hop isnt dead. Out there on the fringes there are still some groundbreaking artists pushing back the boundaries of the hip hop scene.

Mos Def is an exceptional example of such an artist. The American rapper has made a career out of raising expectations and continuing to adjust his styles to supirse music fans right at the time they think they’ve got him understood.

Having shifted from the music scene to Hollywood, Mos Def returned to the microphone last year and brought a new album ‘The Ecstatic’ to the world. Blending a unique array of samples with typical thought provoking rhymes, the album was given some outstanding reviews.

Recently Mos Def has toured across the States as well as carrying on with his successful acting career. Some of his latest hollywood work included his portrayal of rock n roll pioneer Chuck Berry in ‘Cadillac Records’ during 2008.

Having just featured on Gorillaz new album ‘Plastic Beach’, the MC appears on the group’s comeback single ‘Stylo’. Now Mos Def has unveiled details of a series of tour dates across the UK.

Hitting the road in Glasgow on April 13th the star will also play dates in Bristol and London. This is a very rare opportunity to see him performing the UK: one you just don't want to miss.

Mos Def will play the following UK dates:

April 2010

13th O2 Academy, Glasgow
14th O2 Academy, Bristol
15th O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London

Glasgow and Bristol show tickets are available from 1pm on Friday 12th February. London show tickets are available now.
