Julian Casablancas Reveals 'Strokes New Album Due in January'

The Strokes frontman turned solo star Julian Casablancas has announced that the band’s new album is scheduled for a release sometime in January.

The Strokes were basically an overnight revolution. Arriving on the indie music scene with guitars, converse trainers and their debut 2001 album ‘Is This It?’, they paved the way for countless imitations who have since made their way into the industry.

Calling a hiatus in 2006, the band members have been busy indulging in various side projects with singer Julian Casablancas recenlty returning to the spotlight with the release of his first solo album. The album has been hailed a success with its blend of spiky new wave guitar riffs and 80s style synth pop.

Fans of The Strokes will be pleased to know that the New York dons are currently in the process of working on new material. Speaking about the release of a new Strokes album, Julian Casablancas revealed to ClashMusic magazine that the new material would surface at the beginning of 2011. "I think January. I was told not to predict anymore. But I’m pretty sure it should be out in January".

In other news The Strokes have opted to record their new material in New York this time, rather than at their adopted home in Los Angeles. Discussing the reasons behind such a move Casablancas had this to say: "For me, there’s something about recording in New York - I was just thinking about it literally yesterday for the first time, in terms of if I could have a choice" he explained.

Continuing, "Because everywhere I’ve ever recorded has kinda been like a logical choice or out of necessity. But there’s something about recording in a nice studio in New York. Maybe it’s just because it’s expensive, I dunno. Recording in LA is nice though."
