Ricky Gervais is a stand-up comedian, actor, writer and director from Reading.

He started his comedy career in 1998, when he appeared on The 11 O'Clock Show. However, he is best known as the star and creator of television programme The Office from 2001 until 2003, followed up with Extras in 2005. He has since gone on to create and appear in several more successful TV shows, including Derek, An Idiot Abroad and After Life, as well as movies such as Ghost Town and The Invention of Lying. He has also hosted the Golden Globe Awards five times.
