McFly Set To Invade America Later This Year

English pop-rockers McFly have announced that they'll be lining-up some shows in the US in the near future – and, following the American success of British boybands One Direction and The Wanted, they couldn't have planned it at a better time!

The band have been around since 2003 and will be recording their sixth studio album in June. But, in their nine-year career, they've never toured the US – and were perhaps put off by the failure of their friends and fellow boyband Busted, who split up shortly after attempting to crack the US.

But now, One Direction and The Wanted have taken America by storm – with One Direction quickly following-up a tour alongside US counterparts Big Time Rush with the announcement of their first headline run of dates and their own television show. So, the McFly boys will be hoping to emulate their success and will release only their second album in the US later this year.

Speaking to Billboard, singer Tom Fletcher said: “We have some fans in America that have been fans for like eight or nine years - right from the beginning - so much so that they fly over to see us in the UK. It's amazing that they are so dedicated. So I think we owe it to them to come over.”

Fletcher went on to talk about the band's new album, and revealed that crowds on their current UK tour have been really taking to their new material – particularly one track, entitled 'Red', which you can hear below.

“I'm surprised that fans latched onto ['Red'] really, because it's very different from our normal kind of songs, and it doesn't really have a big, catchy sing-a-long type chorus. It's quite a progressive song for us.

“[The new record] will be the first album where it's 100% exactly how we envision the album to be. It doesn't feel like a shift in direction like the last album. It doesn't feel like a conscious change. It just feels like a very natural progression. It feels like what we should be doing.”

You can catch McFly at the remaining three dates of their current tour, which takes them to Birmingham, London and Manchester, or at one of their summer dates. If you need tickets, check the dates and details below the 'Red' video.
