Gorillaz Reveal UK Warm Up Shows & Tickets

Ahead of their Sunday headline performance at next month’s Coachella Music Festival, cartoon pop band Gorillaz have mapped out a s six-date UK tour for later this month.

The Damon Albarn led group are set to be joined by former Clash members Mick Jones and Paul Simonon on the tour, who both reunited t work on the new Gorillaz album. Bass player Simonon helped out on several tracks included on the group's new album and also worked with Albarn on his project The Good, The Bad And The Queen.

The confirmed series of British dates will be used to rehearse for the upcoming Coachella set and also to road test the “new live band”. “They are live rehearsals – the core band will be going through the set for Coachella – basic and raw – no frills – allowing the band to tighten up on front of an audience. However, they assure us the band are sounding fantastic,” explained the band’s management in an issued statement to Gorillaz-Unofficial.com.

Announced in a mailout to fans, Gorillaz confirmed the dates following the huge success of their new album ‘Plastic Beach’. Featuring a vast mixture of artists such as Mark E Smith, Snoop Dogg and Bobby Womack the album has been given rave reviews. The cartoon pop group also screamed to the top of the recent first ever publicly released Official Chart Company midweek figures.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on your situation, tickets will be limited only to members of the newly established "G-Club" and will come on a first come first serve basis. However, those fans without membership need not fret too much as according to Gorillaz manager Miles Leonard, the band plans to venture out on an “extensive” headline tour later this year.

Kicking off on March 21st the tour begins in Portsmouth at the Wedgewood Rooms. Moving across the country through some very intimate venues.

Gorillaz will play the following UK dates:

March 2010

21st Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth
22nd Bristol Trinity
23rd Cambridge Junction
25th Brighton Old Market
26th Birmingham Irish Centre

Limited to two per person, tickets are on sale now exclusively to Gorillaz “G-Club” fanclub members only. More information at www.gorillaz.com
