Foxy Shazam – Foxy Shazam (Album Review)

“There sure are a lot of dogs out this evening,” says Foxy Shazam frontman Eric Nally at the start of their latest album. “Perhaps they can assist me in a song.” Cue a barking intro to opener ‘Bombs Away’. Well, this isn’t ‘Who Let the Dogs Out?’, but it certainly is barking, as is the rest of the album and everything else about Foxy Shazam for that matter. For those who aren’t yet acquainted, this Cincinnati sextet are now six years old and this is already their third offering, albeit their first on a major label. For those of you who are familiar with their previous work, their latest release may come as quite a shock.

Pixes to Release 'Best of' Album on Vinyl

Legendary Boston alt-rockers the Pixies are to release their 2004 'best of' compilation 'Wave of Mutilation' on vinyl for the first time on 17th January 2011. The double album will be packaged in a gatefold sleeve and the first European pressing will be on orange-coloured vinyl. 'Wave of Mutilation' is a 23-track compilation featuring some of the Pixies most well-known songs such as 'Debaser', 'Gigantic', 'Where is My Mind?' and the title track. It also includes several B-sides and album tracks.

It was today, December 8th, six years ago that one of the greatest ever metal guitarists, former Pantera axe man, “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott was killed by a deranged fan while onstage gigging in Ohio with Damageplan. He was 38. “He was next in line after Eddie Van Halen,” says Scott Ian, Anthrax guitarist. Korn frontman, Jonathan Davies, claims “He was one of the last three great traditional metal guitarists.” To quote here just two tributes from fellow artists, sums up the legend that Dimebag leaves behind.

30 Years On - RIP John Lennon

It’s hard to believe it was 30 years ago today that crazed fan Mark Chapman shot John Lennon dead outside his home at the Dakota building in New York. The 25 year-old had earlier asked Lennon for an autograph and remained outside the building, waiting for his return. After the crime, Chapman waited for police at the scene, pleaded guilty to murder and remains jailed, having had parole applications refused on six separate occasions.
