Love Parade Death Toll Rises To 21.

The death toll from last weekend’s tragic events at Love Parade festival has now risen to 21, with reports of a young German woman dying in hospital as a result of her injuries.

ABC News reports that following the Love Parade stampede, Rolf Haferkamp, spokesman for Duisburg, revealed that a 25-year old girl recently died from her injuries overnight whilst in hospital.

Stereoboard reported earlier this week that over 300 people were injured at the German dance festival, a figure that has now risen to an excess of 500. It was also claimed that 19 people had died as a result of the crush, with the figure now raised to 21.

The tragedy struck when fans leaving the festival and fans gaining access to the festival converged in a narrow tunnel which appeared to be the only entrance and exit to the site. A crush ensued and in attempt to avoid injury many fans stampeded through the tunnel which resulted in the fatalities. Organisers of Love Parade have now cancelled the dance celebration permanently, as a mark of respect to those who died their families and friends.

NME reports that organisers could possibly face negligent homicide charges after police allegedly advised the planning team to move the festival location to a more appropriate site. Investigations are currently ongoing with security plans being closely examined.

A book of condolence has been opened and a remembrance service is being planned for the victims.
