Best known as vocalist and frontman extraordinatire for the phenomally successful Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant has announced that he will be playing at this year’s BBC Electric Proms.
In 2009, Plant won five Grammy awards (including Best Album) for 'Raising Sand', which he wrote with Alison Krauss. The album achieved great critical and public acclaim, mixing a variety of influences including rock, bluegrass and tribal beats. His performance at the Electric Proms will feature his current group, Band Of Joy, as well as contribution from the London Oriana Choir. He is expected to play a mix of fan-favourite Led Zepplin songs as well as his own material.
Also confirmed to play this year is the ever-eccentric Elton John, who has announced he will be sharing the stage with singer-songwriter Leon Russell. Also set to perform alongside Elton John are rap-turned-soul singer Plan B and Jazz songstress Rumer.
Both appearances will be televised and broadcast live on BBC radio, with Elton John appearing on 28th October and Robert Plant appearing on 29th October.
Additional acts set to appear at this year’s Electric Proms will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Electric proms started in 2006, and since that time has included memorable performances from Bloc Party, The Last Shaddow Puppets, Razorlight, Paul McCartney, Mark Ronson and The Streets, among others.
