Maverick Sabre Set to Release EP Following Radio One Performance

Introducing Maverick Sabre… It was the works of Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan and Aretha Franklin that inspired the early learnings of the young Michael Stafford. But now, aged 20, under his moniker, Maverick Sabre is garnering acclaim for his wave of hip-hop inspired soulful folk vocals. Last year, he unleashed his 10 track free download The Travelling Man Mixtape, which received massive critical acclaim and huge support from some of the top UK Radio DJ’s. Next up, Maverick Sabre releases his The Lost Words EP out on 7th March 2011.

In the midst of Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave’s marathon show, Maverick Sabre visited the Radio 1 offices last night and performed LIVE on both Radio 1 and 1Xtra. The session went so well that immediately after it finished, Maverick Sabre and Wonderwall became a trending topic worldwide on Twitter and his ‘The Lost Words’ EP shot up to #2 on the iTunes album chart.

Having already won over a diverse fanbase, from the crowds at SXSW in Texas to the DJs at Jamaica’s infamous Irie FM (where he performed an impromptu gig in the car park), stints on recent national tours with Plan B and Chase & Status haven’t gone amiss either. He featured on Professor Green’s recent single ‘Jungle’ and also appears on ‘Fire In Your Eyes’ - one of the biggest tracks on the new Chase & Status
album ‘No More Idols’.

‘Look What I Done’, the lead track on the EP, is about the perils man inflicts upon woman and while sonically different to his dubstep-inspired collaborations, equally showcase the voice that won’t leave you alone long after the record’s finished. ‘Look What I Done’ has already got off to a brilliant start at UK radio with major radio 1
support from Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Fearne Cotton and Jo Whiley as well as A-List support from 1Xtra.

Maverick, born in London but raised in Ireland’s southeast Wexford, has spent the past few years plugging away on the acoustic circuit, having been encouraged to focus on his singing, but recent studio sessions with Chase & Status and Footsie have given Maverick a new take on his folk-like songs, reigniting his love for all things dark, wobbly and bassline related. Where his dream session’s concerned,
envisage 9th Wonder on production, Erykah Badu and Adele on vocals, with Mike Skinner as creative director.

You can catch Maverick Sabre live at:
